Turtles in IUCN RED LIST
SAVE the turtles. They may no longer be around in future.
There are 7 species of turtles distributed around the world. Out of the seven species, six are already threatened or critically endangered as listed in IUCN red list taken from the current ENDANGERED SPECIES RESEARCH : ‘The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species: Assessing Its Utility and Value’ (Godfrey and Godley, 2008).

This auspicious date had me thinking about lots of typical Chinese traditional beliefs in ways to celebrate this special day!! Buying lotteries? Getting engaged? Call up mahjong kaki for a few rounds of betting? Carve each other's name on the bark of a tree? Message in a bottle?
No. 8 [Cantonese : 'pat', Mandarin : 'pa'] is a special number in Chinese customs believed to bring auspicious meaning - prosperity, ['Cantonese : fatt', Mandarin : 'fa']. So, I browse to see what special events held in conjunction to this day.
080808.com.my is a site created in Malaysia to mark the day. It is in the form of a mosaic announcement with tiny pictures of people who joined the movement. How creative?!! This site also hosted campaign in support of the global climate change. All you have to do is make a pledge on what you want to do today to help combat climate change. Make a Mark for Climate Change!!!
Well, I don't think it serves as an informative site in issues regarding climate change for surfers to browse at. However, it is a good start for those who are starting to pay attention to the global agenda. For those who are already abreast with the current updates, sites like these remind us of our individual role in helping the environment.
Basically, I think everybody's hook up to the Opening Ceremony of Beijing Olympics tonight. Mind to share? I doubt if I'm able to get a glimpse of it.

I remembered how you lived

A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the lord.

A Turtle-ing Commitment
Every agenda that took part in our lives needed commitment. We need to sacrifice and make ways for things to happen even if it is the least important to us. It is how we were taught and trained to be since a child. How responsibility and ethics played a role to bring us to where we are today. Don't you realize that?
It's a form of discipline.
This applies in conservation work. It is mostly driven by those who have the passion but lack the resources. Conservationists are among the most hardworking people on Earth. They work their mind, body and soul for the benefit of others.
I'm citing this example from the M'sia's turtle conservation project, Turtle Research and Rehabilitation Group. It was formerly known as Sea Turtle Research Unit (SEATRU). Prof Chan Eng Heng from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu is the heart of the group. Throughout the years, she headed the task in saving the lives of depleting marine turtles and conduct various programs to help spread the message across. Her generous effort came a long long way. It took Malaysian a few decades to realize that we are actually losing our own natural resources.
It is not often that you see successful conservation effort thriving in the long-run. Especially when problems never lost their way in you! Conservation is a tasking and tiring effort. With turtles, you work when they come to you and we don't go all out to the open sea and barge into them. No!
We silently compose ourselves in the middle of the night til morning just to wait for them to come ashore. Brushing away sand flies, mosquitoes and insects of all sorts just to wait for females to lay their precious eggs. Never giving up though there might not be a single turtle nesting for that particular week. Speed, reliability, observance and passion is needed to finalise the work.
Do you wish to join the effort in combating the turtle's lost? Thrilled seeing baby turtles making it's way to the rough sea? Be a volunteer and experience yourself the joy of saving turtle eggs.

- Much needed patience to dig up eggs buried deep into the sand all night long.
- A will to transfer eggs with repetition-done only with guarded care and gentleness.

- A daredevil spirit to go face-to-face with nasty egg poachers armed with parang.
